QURBANI

    Qurbani key terms explained

    Definition:

Qurbani is ritual sacrifice of an animal which takes place every year during Eid ul Adha. In the Hanafi madhab it is compulsory (Wajib) upon every sane Muslim who has enough wealth above their basic needs. Qurbani sacrifice is classed as Sadaqah contribution.

    Purpose:

The purpose of Qurbani is to follow in the footsteps of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) who was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) as an act of devotion to Allah. Giving Qurbani also shows your submission to Allah and is an opportunity for you to reflect on your relationship with Him. It is also a means of gaining empathy for the poor and sharing the joy of Eid with those who are less fortunate.
